Art is a form of being in conversation with the environment and can be a tool to protect it. I’m committed to deepening the overlap of art and advocacy in my work, and thoughtfully seek opportunities to support social and environmental justice initiatives in Alaska and beyond. In the Springs of 2023 and 2024 I teamed up with Chugach Ratepayers Alliance to get out the vote for the Chugach Electric board elections. Together we created original artworks, social media content, and physical products highlighting the importance of renewable energy infrastructure and the impact of local elections.

Each year the Northern Alaska Environmental Center selects an artist whose work embodies the spirit of Northern Alaska. In 2023, I was selected as the featured artist and created “Ground Truth” an original watercolor painting depicting tundra, and the wide range of nature and culture it holds.
This piece was used throughout the year to keep the public informed of conservation issues and in outreach materials. The painting was then auctioned off as a fundraiser for the Northern Center.

Art for the Arctic Refuge Fundraiser

An open call to artists inspired to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, this virtual art show and fundraiser conducted in October 2020 included works from over 30 artists worldwide. This effort raised awareness about impending threats to the refuge from oil and gas development, and generated support and donations for Defend the Sacred Alaska.Some Actions Can Never Be Undone

On January 6, 2021, the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge - sacred land, public land, and critical habitat for countless animals - was leased to the highest bidders.
This short film and the artwork within was made in solidarity with Indigenous leaders working to protect the coastal plain and encourages viewers to take the “pledge to defend” through Defend the Sacred Alaska.

It’s an honor to let these little pictures contribute to the big picture in ways that are important to you.
